Accessible activities on the river Camel include fishing, nature watching & photography.
We are fortunate to have the Camel Trail running alongside which makes access to
the river very easy for all. In the river below Polbrock Bridge navigation is permitted
giving decent access to the river for boaters & canoeists around high tide. While
not very lively boating the Camel represents a pleasant small slow river environment. But
has it’s own perils & is vulnerable too, so please read and heed the advice given.
All these activities must be done respecting the river Camel’s position as a SSSI
and advice iwill be given in these pages on how to enjoy the river responsibly while
respecting the laws protecting the river and land where the river runs.
Although granted SAC & SSSI status the river still suffers from siltation due to
run-off from agricultural activities and roads, invasive weeds, wilful neglect and
wilful damage. The CFA makes a huge effort to mitigate and reverse these negative
influences and restore the habitat for wildlife. This is only possible through the
excellent clubs and individuals who care passionately about this special river.
